Your Map and Your Guide

Psalm 48:14 -- "For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die."

God provides our map and His is our companion. We often pray for guidance and comfort as we settle hard decisions and struggles in our life.

That is what God is -- He is our light, our guide and our comfort.

He provided us with the Bible as a road map to give us direction through this life. He provided the Holy Spirit as a companion who has intimate knowledge of God's plans and will help you interpret the map correctly and determine your course of action.

God is here for us forever and ever. As you wade through life, use the tools He has given you -- your map and your guide.

Children are Gifts from God

Psalm 127:3-- "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him."

I remember the day my daughter was born. I cannot describe the joy in my heart. My child really was a gift from God.

Now I'm going to be honest, three and a half years later, I can confidently say that no one will drive me more crazy than my little girl. Probably because she is so much like me. But even on the bad days -- because lets face it parents there are always bad days -- there is joy in my heart because no matter what, she is still a beautiful gift from God.

She can make me more frustrated than I've ever known, but more importantly she can make me laugh and smile in moments I wouldn't think possible. She finds the extraordinary in unexpected places and understands  more than I can imagine. I am so proud of her and all that she is. But isn't that our duty as parents, to show her the way of the Lord and then let her walk it.

Our children are not burdens. They are brilliant, inquisitive, limit-testing, creative wonderful gifts from God. They are looking to us, their earthly parents, for love and guidance.

Dear Lord,
Please be with me and guide me as I teach my child in your ways.

Guard Your Heart

Proverbs 4:23 -- "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

One of the things I have focused on in particular as I walk closer with God is my attitude and to always harbor positive thoughts. I've grown an incredible amount in this area thanks to the Lord's guidance. However, I am still in need of reminding and applying these practices.

I have guarded my heart carefully for quite a while concerning negative thoughts, but just a few days ago I allowed several situations that were out of my control get the better of me and negative thoughts began breeding.

Even when we are careful we must continue to guard our hearts because before you know it, you return to your old, destructive ways. When you find this happening  like I did, you turn to God and repent. Accept God's forgiveness and remove the thoughts from your heart. Of course, this is extremely more difficult than I could ever describe, but that is why you ask God to help you because with Him you will succeed.

It is important to guard your heart because what we believe becomes how we think; how we think becomes how we speak; and how we speak controls our lives.

Dear Lord,
Help me guard my heart so that you can flow from it.

You Must Apply God's Word

James 1:22 -- "But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves."

You get up and go to church on Sunday. You listen to the message  You say Amen. Maybe you go to a study group. Maybe you read your Bible during the week.

Do you understand what you are hearing? Do you understand what you are reading? Are you applying the words to your everyday life?

It is very easy to let the words flow in and out of your head. After being in church for a while all the words begin to feel commonplace and ordinary. Do they have the same meaning as they once did? Do they mean more? Do they mean less?

To fully live in the peace and joy that God provides we have to stay in communication with Him. We also have to apply these words to our everyday life and all of our circumstances. We must understand and obey God's Word to receive all that He offers. Otherwise you care only fooling yourself.

Dear Lord,
I ask You to give me understanding and wisdom to apply Your Word to my life, to not only hear the words, but to be obedient and do what they say.
