We had some friends visit us this past weekend that are as close as family. We have missed them since we moved. It brought our whole family great joy to see them again.
"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same." ~Flavia Weedn, Forever
This past week held our anniversary. My husband, Stephen, made this wonderful home-cooked meal. We had Chicken Cordon Bleu with Italian and garlic asparagus. It was delicious, a great way to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary together.
I painted this picture of the Tree of Life. For those who know Divergent, the inspiration came from "Amity: The Peaceful." I have always been fascinated with trees and so it all fits together for me. I'm not sure if it is finished yet, but I'm also not sure what to add. Nonetheless, I'm pretty excited about it.
Yesterday was my daughter, Zoey's, 5th birthday. We had a great day in Seattle to celebrate. One of her favorite moments though, was playing with her toys, especially the Lego Friends Treehouse that she has wanted for a while now. This is one of my favorite pictures of the a truly wonderful day.
Summer Seattle Sunsets are breathtaking. This is the view from the rooftop of my apartment overlooking Puget Sound last week. I don't think it will ever get old.
The first step on moving day was getting everything on the truck. Like I said before ("I'm Back to Writing, Live from Seattle") we have a lot of stuff, too much for our apartment probably. However, we won't know what we need and what we don't until we get it there. So we got rid of what we could and packed everything else. Thankfully, Amazon is moving us. These really nice guys came out and packed everything and put it on the truck for us. It is my kind of moving.
Our next step was to say goodbye to this house. It was the first house Stephen and I ever bought. It was also the only house Zoey ever knew. We brought her home from the hospital to this house. It is hardest for her I think. I can see all the flaws in the house and know somewhat about the adventure ahead of us. For Zoey, that house is simply her home and she is going into the unknown. She is doing amazing with the transition and even seems genuinely excited about it. I know I am.
The last leg was the flight from Charleston, SC to Seattle, WA. It isn't a bad flight it usually takes a total of six and a half hours in the air. This trip our layover was in Dallas, TX. It was just long enough for us to grab some pizza and board the plane. My favorite kind of layover. We got into Seattle at midnight local time; to us it felt like 3 a.m. Nonetheless, I was glad the day had finally reached an end. We were home.
So perhaps this wasn't quite a wordless Wednesday, but I am glad to share my adventures with you. It has been a crazy journey and we still aren't quite settled yet until we can unpack everything this upcoming weekend. I'm happy for this community because no matter where we physically are, I can come online and it always feels like home.
We are moving from Charleston, SC to Seattle, WA at the end of the month! I am so excited about this move. I have never been to the west coast and I am looking forward to exploring it. We are almost finished packing. The house looks completely different without all of the pictures and art that express who we are hanging on the walls. The photo above is of me in front of the numbers of our house. I thought it would be a good way to remember where we lived, where we brought our daughter home from the hospital and where we have spent the last five years of our lives learning and loving and growing together. It was a good house, but I am super excited for our new adventure. I can't believe we're moving to Seattle!

I took this last week when we went to the beach. We saw several sea snails with beautiful shells come out an dig into the sand. It was fun to see sea life so active. Happy Wordless Wednesday!

"I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees. The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets. It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day. It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful. Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail; and when I hear the coyote wailing to the yellow dawn, my cares fall from me — I am happy." ~Hamlin Garland, McClure’s, February 1899
We went to see the "Lego Movie" this past weekend. It lives us to the hype! It is so well done and has a little bit of everything. It was great to see as a family, we laughed through the whole movie. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good way to spend the day.
It does not snow much in the south. The last time we saw snow was in 2010. That was four years ago. As you can tell, there is not much, but it was enough to snow us in for three days last week. It was a nice break from life, but also very cold. Nonetheless, we had a blast playing in our little bit of snow and ice.
Zoey loves to swing and climb, so when we got the opportunity to go to a gymnastics building, even just for causal play, we were excited. Zoey loved all of it and had a wonderful day. She really liked swinging on the uneven bars. It was a great time!
Zoey has had a tricycle for a few years now, but she has been wanting a "big girl bike." Yesterday we were finally able to fulfill her wish! She was so excited about her bike and it was a great day for a ride!
