Preschool Homeschool: Week 4 Review

Homeschool Preschool 4-K
Week 4
Review Week

We divide our homeschool curriculum into 4 basic parts: Bible, Letters and Numbers, Book of the Week and Other Skills. It is geared toward age 4, though many of the activities are good for children of all ages. I write this to give an overview of lessons and projects that we do to give you ideas to teach and do crafts with kids. We have a very casual preschool approach, but it is always fun to be creative and learn together!

This week was focused on going back over the letters and numbers, practicing handwriting and pre-reading skills. We had a lot of fun, made a lot of crafts and played lots of games this week.

Other Skills

Tic Tac Toe Board [Printable] and pieces [Printable]

This was a fun one for us. Zoey and I have been playing tic tac toe for awhile now, but this adding a fun element to the game. Using the printables above, you cut out and color the pieces and then you have a reusable game. We did not try to stand them up, but if you printed them on card stock they probably would, or add paper clips to make it heavy. However, we enjoyed just using the pieces flat. Zoey especially enjoyed winning with the suns. "I'm cool like the sun!" she exclaimed.

Higher Than the Heavens

Psalms 113:4 --"For the Lord is high above the nations; his glory is higher than the heavens."

We talk about God being our Creator, but do we really stop to think about what that means?

Our world is full of rulers: presidents, kings, generals and CEOs. But, all of those people are limited. They are limited in the space because they can only lead over their part, what is in their jurisdiction. And they are limited by time, forced into the here and now, unaware of what is going on around them -- at least in entirety.

God is the King of Kings. He rules over all the leaders in this world because he is outside this world. God's jurisdiction doesn't stop at a nation's border. It doesn't stop at earth's border. God is not only Lord above the nations, but also the heavens. That includes the sun, moon, stars and far beyond what ever the greatest dreamers and scientists can image.

God created the heavens and the earth and he is not bound by space or time, he rules over all. With this greatness in perspective, is there anything God can't handle? The answer is no. God can do all things. He can protect and guide you though all things great and small.

I think that is the most amazing thing about God -- He is ruler over heavens and earth and he still wants to get to know me personally, to talk with me every moment of every day. He wants the same for you. All you have to do is reach out to him and have faith that the ruler of all the earth and all the heavens will guard and guide you down the right path. He sill if you trust him to do so.

Philemon (Bible in 90 Days)

Paul writes a personal letter to Philemon on behave of a slave. Onesimus was Philemon’s slave who stole from his master and ran away to Rome. While on the run, Onesimus ran into Paul and the Good News. He accepted Christ, but then it was time to go home to Colosse.

With very careful words and explanations, Paul writes to his friend Philemon who is a member of the Colossian Church. He explains that Onesimus is coming back, not as a slave, but as a brother. Paul pleas for Philemon to forgive Onesimus’ transgressions, desertion and theft, for they are now brothers in Christ.

“It seems Onesimus ran away for a little while so that you could have him back forever. He is no longer like a slave to you. He is more than a slave, for he is a beloved brother, especially to me. Now he will mean much more to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord” (Philemon 1:15-16).

The book of Philemon demonstrates the power of Christ and true Christian fellowship in action. No matter what barriers stand in front of you, God calls you to seek unity and break down those walls to embrace your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Peace and Confidence Forever

Isaiah 32:17 -- "And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever."

Righteousness in the eyes of God is defined by faith.

Genesis 15:6 -- "And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith."

When we have faith that God is who he says he is, does what he says he will do and produces all for good, we can find a true peace.

John 14:27 -- "I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."

This is a peace that world will never be able to provide. It comes from the faith that God has all of the evil, struggle and circumstances under his Almighty control and it will all be for good.

It is with that faith, that any miracle is possible with God, that a quietness comes over you. There is no more need for restlessness or worry. A calm overtakes you that allows for great things to happen in your life and in those around you. Even when there is struggle, you are able to stand on the rock of Christ knowing that hen the storm passes you will remain on solid ground.

Knowing that you have a sturdy foundation in Christ will cover you with confidence, which will not allow the instability of the world to effect you any longer.

It all begin with faith, and having a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray for Each Other

James 5:16 -- "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."

Being truly open and honest with others is intimidating and sometimes down right scary. When you confess problems, concerns and sins you are putting yourself out there for ridicule and rejection. However, if you share with a fellow child of God, you have to have faith that they will love you despite your imperfection, in the same way Christ does. You should also support other despite their imperfections because let's face it, non of us are perfect.

When we share with each other we open ourselves to vulnerability, but through that we can enter into an even greater power through Christ. When we pray for others and they for us, it will produce wonderful results that were not reachable on your own. We are stronger in Christ than we are alone and we are stronger together than on our own.

Matthew 18:19-20 -- "I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

By coming together and lifting each other up, God is present and able to make wonderful things happen through the faith of those who love him and love each other.
