Wordless Wednesday *Linky* Crafting Girls

My mom and I have been making clothes together for many years. We have been making clothes for Zoey since she was born (including the awesome Clemson dress she is wearing.) I think it is so cool that now, at age 4, she understands what it means to make clothes. She picked this Smurf fabric out while at the store and declared to my mom and I that it was going to be a nightgown and she was going to wear it. I was so proud of her and amazed how much she understands about sewing. And indeed, it will become a nightgown for her, just as she wanted it to be.

Oh I think that is not just precious but valuable - too many kids think it has to come off a hanger!! My own mother was quite the seamstress and I can manage - but crochet is more my thing; many a jumper, scarf, muffler..... &*> YAM xx

  10. My grandmother used to make my clothes and I remember the joy of getting to go to the fabric store and pick out my favorite print...then one day she just stopped. I never got to learn that skill from her and I truly regret it.

  13. I think it's great you sew clothing for your daughter. This is a skill many young girls are not learning. I must admit, I did not teach mine. Sewing was essential for many women in the 50s, 60s, & 70s. Making ones clothes was an inexpensive alternative, but today I don't know if that's true. I think sewing is more like a hobby and that's ok. We all need to what we enjoy and those around us will share in that joy especially when you present them with home-made garments. I bet the Smurf nightgown will be adorable! BTW, I have a Diamond Candles candle giveaway going on right now, if you're interested.

  22. I can't sew to save my life but my sister is a professional seamstress. It's so amazing having her sew for us. When my daughter was little, my sister made he tons of dresses--we kept most of them as keepsakes.
