Conversations with God

Genesis 18:33 -- "When the Lord had finished his conversation with Abraham, he went on his way, and Abraham returned to his tent.

How do you talk to God? I believe everyone has a slightly different relationship  with God, just like we have different relationships with different people. Prayer is our primary way to communicate with God. We call on him and praise him which is all a form of prayer. However, God can communicate and get our attentions in other ways too. He gives us a gut instinct, a random notion to speak or help others, a conscience of what to and what not to do and many others.

In Genesis, Abraham has a conversation with God. It is not a prayer to the heavens, but a face-to-face interaction. In this passage (Genesis 18:16-33), Abraham intercedes for Sodom and Gomorrah (cities filled with evil) asking God if there are even ten people who are righteous that he would not destroy it. God agrees. In this conversation Abraham is probably worried most about his nephew Lot and family who live in Sodom, which God does save.

Genesis 18:33 strikes me as interesting because it is a direct description of a conversation between Abraham and God. When the conversation was over and both had said their peace, Abraham went one way and God another.

God is always ready and willing to communicate with us. However, we have to open our ears and our hearts to receive His Word. We do not meet God face-to-face as Abraham did, but He will still have conversations with us. God can be subtle, but He will always speak truth and will never contradict His Word.
