This is a very powerful promise! It is further proof that God is interested in every detail of our lives. However, it is not a guarantee that you will get everything you ask for even if you believe. God would not grant a request that would hurt us, nor does He go against His own nature. Jesus did not make this statement to fulfill a wish list that would never end, He wanted to encourage His people to actively pray and be in communication with God. It is a comfort that God will be available and hear every prayer because He loves His children.
When we are truly in line with God's will, which comes gradually as we stay in constant connection with Him, our desires are God's desires. When our requests are in harmony with the principles of God's Kingdom He gladly fulfills our requests.
Solomon states in Ecclesiastes 3:14, "And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it." God will not frighteningly give you anything you ask for; however, if you do not ask you will never receive God's blessings either. God has a plan, an ultimate plan, for you, for me and for the entire world. God wants to bless you and He will if you communicate with him; if you pray and you have faith you will receive life and life abundantly (John 10:10).
God is ready and willing to bless you, are you willing to ask? Sometimes, you just have to ask.

Amanda, thank you for this short meditation on prayer. The line that spoke most to me was about our requests being in harmony with the principles of God's Kingdom. I needed reminding about that. Thanks for doing so.
