Haggai (Bible in 90 Days)

Haggai presents a challenge to get priorities in order. In his day it was encouragement to finish rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem after Israel’s exile.

King Cyrus decreed Israelites should go back into Jerusalem, which they were previously exiled from 70 years earlier, with the priority to rebuild the temple. The year was 538 BC. Eighteen years later, 520 BC, it still wasn't completed. The people had become tired and distracted. But God presented a call to finish rebuilding the Temple.

“You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the Lord of Heaven’s armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses.” Haggai 1:9

It took four more years, but through Haggai’s encouragement the temple was completed in 516 BC. Haggai gives us a reminder to put God first and you will be blessed.
