With His Own Blood

Hebrews 9:12 -- "With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever."

Sacrifice is a very important subject in the Bible. The imagery in this verse comes from the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16) where the details of sacrifice were given to Moses by the Lord.

Old Testament sacrifices involved the blood of bulls, goats and calves. They had to repeat each sacrifice again and again because the people were constantly sinning.

When Jesus died on the cross He changed everything. Jesus ushered in the New Covenant. Because Jesus was the perfect lamb and willingly sacrificed himself, He was able to fight the battle of sin and victoriously entered the most holy place. In this way, he has freed us from the slavery of sin forever. He was the ultimate sacrifice that secured our redemption forever.

Now we no longer have to sacrifice animals to be in God's presence, Jesus' blood cleanses our hearts. Now, we can have a clean conscience, we are free of death's sting. We can live to serve God and we are freed from sin's power.

Hallelujah! Praise God!

Dear Lord,
Thank you for sending your son to obtain victory over sin and redeem us forever so we may be in your presence, live guilt free and serve You!
