The Setting of Creation - Genesis 1:2

Genesis 1:2 -- “ The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”

Before the world there was nothing. The space was empty there was no form. When God chose to create the world He gave it purpose. He took nothing and made something wonderful. He gave form to the universe. And then He filled it with light, land, stars, animals and finally human beings.

God’s Spirit was present when He created the world and He is still present today, actively involved in our lives. The image of the Spirit of God hovering over the surface is like a mother bird hovering over and protecting her young.

Isaiah 31:5 -- "The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will hover over Jerusalem and protect it like a bird protecting its nest. He will defend and save the city; he will pass over it and rescue it."

God is the Creator, the Father, of the whole world. He watches over us all and protects us. He does this because He loves us. He loved us when He made us and He loves now as He continues to care for us.

God created the world in an orderly fashion and He created us to be unique, in His image, to be able to communicate and have a personal relationship with Him. God created the world from a dark, empty void into the world we know; He created it just the way He wanted it. We can trust Him and His sovereignty over it. He will guard and guide us through our journey through His creation.
