Colossians 3:2 -- "Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth."
We are meant to set our eyes on Christ, not on the things of this world. Our world is temporary, but Christ is eternal.
Romans 6:23 -- "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord."
Our purpose is to love God and love our neighbor.
Matthew 22:37-39 -- "Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself."
Christ gives us the example to do just this. He also gives us the tools as he continues to show us how to live the way he did -- always loving others.
Colossians 3:12 -- Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."
Our beauty does not last, just as nothing in this world lasts. Charm is deceptive which is the opposite of loving your neighbor and the opposite of what Jesus commissioned us to be. However, when we trust and put our hope in the Lord we will live an eternal life with Christ, and we will be praised.
Psalms 147:11 -- "No, the Lord’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love."
Instead of concerning yourself with false beauty, fancy clothes and accessories or makeup, find the beauty with in. The best way to do that is to focus on Christ and let him shine light and life through you. Only through knowing who we are in Christ can we appreciate who we are suppose to be in the world.
1 Peter 3:4 -- "You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God."
Everything we have learned about the wife of noble character have culminated into this statement. We've seen all the things she is and does for herself, her family and her community. This is what the wife of noble character is teaching us -- "Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised" (Proverbs 31:30). Love the Lord and let His love shine through you.
