Colossians (Bible in 90 Days)

Colossians is a book outlining our connection to Christ. Paul breaks down the Christian faith to prove that believers have everything they need in Christ.

Paul spends time talking about the man Jesus and states that he is “the visible image of the invisible God” (1:15). He continues to prove Jesus’ divinity and concludes by explaining how Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross is our way to be able to stand in the presence of God. It is through our connection with Christ that we are able to have eternal life.

Paul explains all of this doctrine to denounce false teachings that have been integrated into the church. The problem was what came to be known as “syncretism,” combining the ideas from other philosophies and religions such as Paganism, strains of Judaism and Greek thought. Paul wanted the churches to understand that Christ is God incarnate and the only way to forgiveness and peace with God the Father.

Paul also speaks of the love believers should have for each other.. We should fill our thoughts with heaven because our earthly life is short. We should shun all lusts and sexual impurities. Our lives should shine with truth, love and peace. We should constantly communicate with God through prayer and take every opportunity to spread the Good News. Paul explains all this to show that Christ provides everything we need for salvation and a Christian life here on earth.

“For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.” (Colossians 1:27)

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” (Colossians 3:16)
